i raise rabbits. i breed and raise rabbits for meat. yes, that means that once they're old and heavy enough, i kill and butcher them.
what's been getting me lately is that people look at me like i'm some brute for doing such a thing. they'll say this over their bacon cheese burger, mind you. i calmly point out that a pig and a cow both died for his gut to stay as big as it is. "that's different"
is it? so, people who hire hit men are guilty of no crime? of course they are. when you buy chicken nuggets for your little pride and joy, just keep in mind chickens died for them. someone, somewhere, killed, feathered, gutted, and cut some unknowing, living chicken for your youngin'.
you just made your child a party to an animal's death. and i don't see anything wrong with that. God killed the first living being. look it up. He didn't cover adam & eve with fig leaves.
i'm killing for my family's sustenance. we save a lot of money, and we have the comfort of knowing how they lived and died. we know what did and, maybe more importantly, what didn't go into them. we know how they were dispatched and butchered.
the issue people have is bunnies are cute. people are offended that tuna nets kill dolphins, again, because dolphins are cute. dolphins are skilled predators. they hunt in groups. they're master strategists, but they're cute.
i want a can of tuna-safe dolphin. why not? they're protein, right? i say, eat more cute things.

what do we do?
i was thinking on my way out of dreamland this morning. yes, i know, but some of my best thoughts happen during that journey.
what do we, in this day, age, and culture, really do? we don't write letters anymore. we type them. we don't watch our own children, that's what daycare is for. we don't cook our own food, it comes in pretty boxes. seriously! i brought broccoli and cheese to thanksgiving one year. i made it there fresh, since it's so quick. my brother asked what brand it was. i said it's broccoli and cheese, jon.
"yeah, but what brand?"
"no brand. i made it myself!"
"you can do that? how?"
"it's broccoli and cheese!"
"wow, cool!"
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?! yeah, btw, jon, you can make macaroni and cheese by combining macaroni and cheese!!
we all have cell phones, right? but do we call each other, or text? we get updates on our friends' lives on facebook and twitter. now, i have friends who live in australia, so the time difference alone makes communication difficult. but i have another friend who lives the next town over, but fb told me she's in a relationship. i'm so ashamed to admit that, but it's true.
we barely check our mail. the one on a pole with a flag. you know, stamps? envelopes? saliva? when we do get it, we don't really look at it until it's piled up so high we can't see our toaster. that's another point. did you know there are instructions on how to microwave your pop tarts®? like 2 seconds on high. "jeez, i would've been on time, boss, but i had to nuke my toaster pastry. good thing i read the instructions, or i wouldn't have realized i had to remove the pastry from the pouch first!"
we pay bills, date, shop, have sex, talk, share vacation pictures and videos, look words up in the dictionary, research in encylopedias, find out who we're supposed to vote for, find out who died, plan parties, plan trips, find movie times, find stock quotes, find out how much we're overdrawn, if it's a snow day, dump people, marry, check the weather (because the window is so far away), check traffic, work, get medical advice, masterbate, and type endless blogs ONLINE. why? are we afraid of face-to-face human contact? are we just too lazy?
i heard a 15-year old say that breast feeding was too old fashioned for people to do today. that's what formula is for. uh-huh. ask any pediatrician. breast milk is best.
people don't think for themselves. watch o'brien or letterman one night, and note their political views. then, the next day ask people what they think of that event. more often than not, they'll repeat what they heard on the talk show. they don't even realize it.
people assume because someone's a phd or md, that they're an expert. i heard a psychologist that you should never tell a teenager they did something wrong because "you'll ruin their self-esteem for the rest of their lives." WHAT!?!? okay, she's the "expert"! don't tell your kids they shouldn't have drank and driven. don't tell them they should use condoms or wait, because if they've already given up their virginity and did it once without a condom, they'll think they did something wrong and be depressed the rest of their lives.
we simply don't do much for ourselves. thank God there's no e-toilet paper or we wouldn't even do that ourselves. remember driving past the movie theater to see what they had showing, and then picking a movie based solely on the time it started? how many movies did you see back then that you might not have otherwise? it just doesn't happen anymore, and i think we're losing spontaneity because of it.
just my (not so) humble opinion.

surprise!
you may be surprised to hear this, but i am a christian. not that dopey kind you read about in the true-crime magazines. i'm more practical and realistic in my walk. more about that later.
lately, i've been having this urge to make a major change in my life. a risky move, to be sure.
here's the thing: i feel like it's God leading me to do this, but i haven't actually gotten the word from Him on it.
it's more like this unnatural unrest the way things are. before you start thinking weird shit about this, it's not like i'm looking to undergo SRS or anything. i'm not looking to leave my wife or family, just making a change that falls well within (probably) everyone's religious beliefs. so nothing illegal or immoral.
God's been giving me these verses and little sermons that line up so well with this. if the decision wasn't so big, i'd have done it based on the revelations alone. but God doesn't normally speak to me like this. He tends to be pretty direct with me, but, if this Him, not this time.
i believe in God. i believe He can take care of us no matter what i do. i can't stop Him from providing for us if i tried. hell, i was unemployed, finishing another degree while my wife was making minimum wage, and He helped us meet our financial obligations somehow. it was a just in time thing. we'd not have much, if any, money; and then, BAM! just enough. sometimes a little extra for us to play with.
i think i'll end up doing it, but i just wish that i had a fellow christian (besides my wife, since she'll back me up no matter what) to talk this through with. unfortunately, i don't have the luxury of knowing any near me.

friggin' nuts
i mentioned someone in an earlier post. this post refers to her once again.
i had this conversation, right? totally confusing. she was saying shit that made NO SENSE! lies, mistruths, insults, etc. i couldn't figure out why she was hurling stuff at me that we both knew was bogus. i feel stupid, but it took me a couple of weeks to figure it out.
she had mentioned earlier in the call that she didn't care that my wife was listening in. i tried to tell her that i was on my cell, so that wasn't likely, but she was gaining speed in her tirade. i never got the sentence out.
all that shit, piss, and bile? for my wife's sake!!!
she knew i knew better! she was trying to start shit between my wife and i! my wife has said for sometime that this person wanted me for herself, but I didn't/wouldn't/couldn't (take your pick) believe it. now, after all this, i'm starting to wonder.
vegans: they're friggin' nuts.

it's about freakin' time
i've been at this job for over a year, and i've just figured out what my job description actually is.
i think they over-hired. they hired someone (me) with a degree in a fairly technical field to do a job that, no offense, could be done by anyone with the proper training.
what gets me is that my interviews for this position were aimed at my technical expertise and experience. now, i've apparently turned everything on its ear without even knowing it.
to all employers out there: know what you want the person filling a new position to do before you interview them.

i'm honored?
people need to get over themselves. i mean, really. God made you special, just like he made me special. that doesn't mean i should kiss your ass. i am allowed to disagree with you. i am allowed to have thoughts, feelings, and ideas that you don't share. it's okay. just know that you differ, and keep going.
not so, apparently. apparently, all parents should rear their children just like she does. everyone who isn't a vegan is stupid and don't deserve to be on this earth. it is okay, however, to leave your screaming infant son alone while you go out to get a cappuccino. no need to let the other adults in the house know, just leave! caffeine calls, ya know. if your son pushes another child down or steals their cookie, the victim should learn to stand up for themselves. naturally, if her son is the victim, the offender's parents should be reported.
oh, and if you have a problem with someone, don't let them defend themselves. keep accusing them, without providing actual details, until they apologize and kiss your ass.
that's the goal in life, right? convince everyone that you're perfect, God's chosen one, and anyone whom she blesses with friendship should (you guessed it!) KISS HER ASS!
